    UK Study FAQs

    You can register and apply for an undergraduate course through UCAS (stands for Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). Postgraduate courses in the UK can be processed directly via a University application processes, so it is better to check the individual course web page accordingly

    Internships and work placements are either embedded as part of your curriculum or you`ll get last year being placement year depending upon course selection.

    The standard academic year starts in Sept/Oct and runs until June or July while the Postgraduate courses often run from September to Aug. There are other courses that are more flexible and offer a variety of flexible commencement dates all year round.

    There are wide range of scholarships, discounts, bursaries, fellowships and financial grants available for international students which is dependent upon your nationality and academic back ground. Many institutions also offer their own financial assistance in terms of scholarships and flexible tuition fee payment plans.

    By and large only English Language tests, such as IELTS, TOEFL PTE, Password and Universities own SELT are required by majority of the Universities. The tests such as GRE, GMAT or SAT are required by a few highly ranked Universities.

    UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is a centralised admissions service for undergraduate admissions particularity. Applicants from UK, EU, and sometimes international students aiming to secure a full-time place in the UK can process their applications through UCAS.

    If you wish to stay and opt for further studies in the UK, then you may need to apply for a student visa extension or a work visa depending on the type of employment sought, your duration of stay and your current visa status.

    You can stay in the halls of residence that are on-site or nearby the university site or rent your own private accommodation. You can also opt for a shared living private accommodation outside the campus.

    The average tuition fee is in the range of £12,000 - £15000 and can even go higher depending upon University choices and location. On top living and lodging expenses would be approximately £5,000 - £7000 in the UK which are lower than the annual estimated costs in the USA and Australia.

    You can take a part-time job, work placement or internship along with your studies in the UK and the hours and type of work will depend on the type of course you are pursuing. Generally you are allowed to work 20 hours per work on a degree course and above.

    Scholarships in UK Universities

    Institutions in the UK offer many scholarships options for international students who are willing to pursue their higher education in the country. The students get immense opportunities to qualify for scholarships at all levels including undergraduate, postgraduate (i.e. Masters and MBA), and even Ph.D. programs.

    UK Study Route (Visa) Requirement

    To get the Student Visa in the UK i.e. Tier 4 (General) Student Visa, students must abide by the government’s eligibility requirements including

    • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the respective university.
    • Evidence of funds for course fees as well as monthly living costs.
    • English language skills
    • Students also need to pay the health surcharge to access the UK’s National Health Service.
    • International Students can submit their visa application online through the UK visa and immigration center website.

    Post Study work permit in UK

    According to the latest update by British Council, from 1st Jul’21 international students who have completed UG or master’s degree will be given two years of post-study work permit after studies, and student completing PhD can stay for three years after studies.

    Eligibility for Graduate Route

    • International student must have valid student vise while applying for the Graduate Route.
    • The Graduate Route needs a new visa application.
    • International students should be aware of Confirmation Acceptance for Studies (CAS) used for Student application i.e. Tier 4 in order to apply for the Graduate Route.

    Cost of Education & Accommodation in UK

    Education in the UK is relatively expensive by Indian standards and the tuition fee may vary according to the course and the University you choose to study at. The education expanse ranges from £12,000 to £17,000 annually.

    • As compared to the other cities in the UK, the cost of studying and living is higher in London and South England.
    • Apart from the tuition fee, a major part of your total budget may go into accommodation. Living in private accommodations can be expensive as compared to the University hostels. Basic utilities and living expenses are quite higher than the rest of the countries.

    The living expense may range

    Accommodation £400 – £600 monthly
    Unities £40 – £50 monthly
    Food £160 – £200 pounds monthly

     

    • Working part-time while studying might help you to manage your expenses. There are ample opportunities available for part-time work, internship, or placements during the summer or winter break.
    • The UK’s Study Route (Tire-4) permits the students to work maximum of 20 hours per week, only if the student is studying at degree level and above.
    • Full-time work is only permitted during the vacations.
